I believe in the powerful medicine of community, storytelling, sacred ceremony and authentic, loving connection. I believe in our individual and collective ability to heal and transcend all injuries and traumas, as well as physical, mental, emotional, behavioural or cognitive illnesses or conditions we may develop—no matter how severe or debilitating.
I have had the privilege and the honour of witnessing and holding space for countless inspiring transformations over my years of service and I have personally experienced profound healing on all levels of my being with the support, wisdom, love, medicine and teachings of various healers, holistic practitioners, coaches, clinicians, shamans, relationships and sacred plant and animal medicines.
In addition to my personal experience overcoming life-long mental health challenges, I've been able to heal from a chronic physical illness, which I was once told by various experts, was incurable. From a very young age, I had been accustomed to living a life consumed by mental and emotional struggle and suffering, but things took a dramatic turn for the worse in my early thirties after I became extremely ill with Neurological Lyme Disease and was unable to receive effective treatment through the traditional medical system.
Although I received compassionate support, care and helpful medicine from several medical doctors and practitioners over the years, I also experienced first-hand the sobering and devastating limitations of our Western health care system—both from a professional vantage point while working for over a decade at a hospital, as well as a deeply personal one.
That experience was the “gift of desperation” I needed in order to ignite an unwavering desire to fight for my life and a relentless pursuit of personal growth and healing. It offered me an opportunity to think outside the box and to pry open my heart and mind—enabling me to consider methods of healing which I was taught by society to believe were illogical. It offered me the ability to look within for the answers and to trust what I discovered, to have faith in the unseen and to believe in myself and in the impossible. I became determined to do whatever I had to do to heal—and that’s exactly what I did.
Over the years I devoted to my healing journey and recovery, I came to realize that physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are intimately interconnected and therefore, in order to achieve a state of balance and optimal health and wellness, a holistic treatment approach that incorporates mind, body, soul and Spirit is required.
